Norfolk Self Catering Holiday Cottage Accommodation In A
Peaceful Village Atmosphere
This self-catering Norfolk holiday cottage is located
on the edge of the unspoiled village of Hindolveston,
nestling in the North Norfolk countryside midway between
the market town of Fakenham and the Georgian town of
Holt, and nine miles from the famed North Norfolk
coast.
Hindolveston
is a small traditional Norfolk village with a thriving
community and an ancient history. The Domesday Book of
1086 describes it as providing accommodation for 3
slaves, 2 horses, 20 cattle, 40 pigs, 40 goats and 2
beehives. The slaves have gone, but the rest of the
livestock remain - the 2 horses are still in the field
neighbouring the cottage - and after almost a thousand
years the village has expanded to provide two farm shops,
one in the same lane as The Old Chapel, supplying the
freshest of country produce for your day to day needs.
There is a pub and shop in the neighbouring village of
Foulsham, and we are only six miles from Fakenham,
Reepham and the excellent Georgian shopping town of Holt.
The latter (and indeed the other towns) are still lucky
enough to have superb independent butchers and
greengrocers as well as unobtrusive supermarkets for the
more mundane things!
On the first Saturday of the month, between 9a.m. and
1p.m., there is a very good Farmer’s Market at Fakenham,
fourth Saturday at Aylsham and third Sunday at The Green
Grocers on Earlham Road in Norwich.
During the year there are various arts events put on by
village residents. In the spring, autumn and winter on
the third Saturday of the month the Village Hall is
transformed into a cinema - the programme of films will
be available at The Old Chapel. On Friday evenings
throughout the year there is a bar in the Village Hall,
where you can enjoy the local ales and the occasional
live folk music session.
There are a number of interesting walks in the immediate
vicinity of your Norfolk holiday cottage through the
local fields and woods, and the village provides
wonderfully secluded self-catering holiday accommodation
from which to explore North Norfolk’s many attractions.
The wide open sandy beaches of Holkham and Wells, the
nature reserves at Cley, Saltmarsh and Pensthorpe, the
Queen’s residence at Sandringham and many National Trust
properties like Blickling Hall are all only a very short
drive away.
